In response to Senator John Cornyn (TX) co-sponsoring a piece of legislation in the Senate (“Civics Secures Democracy Act”), I wrote him a message on the legislation late on April 26th, 2021. My full message is replicated below:

‘Senator, it has come my attention you and Senator Coons co-sponsored and introduced legislation into the Senate, known as the “Civics Secures Democracy Act,” to appropriate $1B to civics education grants. On April 19th, the Federal DoEd released a NPRM on a proposed rule “American History and Civics Education,” which is clearly being signaled as the regulation through which that $1B act would be spend through.

What you may not understand — and I can respect you are busy and may not know about his — but the language in the DoEd’s NPRM is alarming. The DoEd is essentially saying that civics and history education in America should be focused on false narratives, such as: 1) All White People are Racist and Oppressors, 2) All Black People can’t get ahead and hold no power, 3) The Government is inherently racist and oppressive, 4) The only way to fix racism is to discriminate, 5) Democracies and Republics as a form of government do not work. You, or your staff, can read my full comment to the DoEd to get a quick understanding of the evolving situation: https://justicejhgraves.medium.com/civics-corrupted-my-public-comment-to-the-u-s-e754570301f7

I’m going to be extremely blunt right now: I understand rejecting and turning your back on a spending bill that funds education is essentially a dead man’s game. The other side of the problem is this: you won’t have a chance to correct this mistake in the future. Children across the country will be taught to hate each other, that our Constitution should be destroyed, and that Republicans as an entire party should be eliminated. This is not an understatement; these are the facts. This isn’t about a fringe ideology; this is about real-world consequences related to a fundamentally dangerous game the Biden-Harris Administration is playing with people’s natural rights, a point I hope I am making very clear. If this educational grant proposal gets regulated and funded, then the next “Senator Cornyn” will not exist or ever hold public office, because the public will learn to reject the American Dream, and aim to end the great American Experiment.

I understand — as I am not your constituent — that I will will not be contacted in response to this message. I can only hope this reaches you in some way, shape, or form and that you consider the dynamics of the situation through the most objective lens possible. Please come up with a non compromising solution to fix what you are in the process of doing. Thank you.’

You can also send Senator Cornyn a message at: https://www.cornyn.senate.gov/contact and then click on the “Discuss an Issue” button. If you live in Texas, possibly scroll up and select the page “For Texans.”

Please note, if you are not a constituent, you will not receive a message back from the Senator, out of respect in prioritizing the residents of the State of Texas and their concerns first and foremost.
