As Senator Ted Cruz is colleague of Senator Cornyn in representing the State of Texas in the U.S. Senate, I decided to write to him in response to Senator Cornyn co-sponsoring a piece of legislation (“Civics Secures Democracy Act”). I wrote the message and sent it late on April 26th, 2021. My full message is replicated below:

‘Senator, it has come to my attention that your colleague in Texas — Senator Cornyn — has co-sponsored a piece of legislation known as the “Civics Secures Democracy Act,” which is an act to appropriate $1B to civics and history education grants and organizations. On April 19th, the Federal DoEd released a NPRM on a proposed rule “American History and Civics Education,” which is clearly signaled as the regulation through which that $1B spending bill would have grant monies prioritized through.

What you may not immediately understand — and I can sympathize why, considering the tense dynamics in Congress at this moment — is the language in the DoEd’s NPRM is alarming. The DoEd is essentially saying that civics and history education grants should be prioritized to those who educate several false narratives, such as 1) All White People are Racist and Oppressors, 2) All Black People can’t get ahead and hold no power, 3) The Government is inherently racist and oppressive, 4) The only way to fix racism is to discriminate, 5) Democracies and Republics as a form of government do not work. You, or your staff, can read my comment to the DoEd to get a quick understanding of the rapidly evolving situation: https://justicejhgraves.medium.com/civics-corrupted-my-public-comment-to-the-u-s-e754570301f7

The “Civics Secures Democracy Act,” does have a provision that there be no national curriculum enforced because of this appropriation, but that will not matter. Due to the poor allocation of funds from the various CARES acts because of almost every state government, school districts across the nation are starving for additional funds. My small town is a prime example of this issue: we have no idea what FY23 will look like, and we are scared. Every single small town school district will end up complying with the entirety of the DoEd’s new regulation in order to ensure they get additional funding. Essentially, all of rural America will transform itself in a larger stomping ground for destroying children’s confidence in the United States of America.

I’m going to get more blunt, Senator: I understand anyone rejecting and turning their backs on this spending bill — which funds educational measures — is essentially playing a dead man’s game. The other side of the problem is this: you won’t get a second chance to correct this mistake in the future. Children across the country will be taught to hate each other, that our Constitution should be destroyed, and that Republicans as an entire party should be eliminated. This is not an understatement; these are the facts. This isn’t about a fringe ideology; this is about real-world consequences related to a fundamentally dangerous game the Biden-Harris Administration is playing with people’s natural rights, a point I hope I am making very clear. If this educational grant proposal gets regulated and funded, then the next “Senator Cruz” will not exist or ever hold public office, because the public will learn to reject the American Dream, and aim to end the great American Experiment.

I understand you and your staff will not be able to contact me — as I am not your constituent. I can only hope this reaches you in some way, shape, or form and that you can consider the extreme pressures and events this could unwittingly produce on our society.

I also sent a message to Senator Cornyn about this. My message can be read here: https://justicejhgraves.medium.com/a-message-to-senator-cornyn-on-the-civics-secures-democracy-act-d2890a4bed0

Please talk to your colleague about this. Thank you.’

You can also sent Senator Cruz a message at: https://www.cruz.senate.gov/?p=email_senator by clicking on the first bullet point, which says “To voice your opinion to Senator Cruz, please click here.”

Please note, if you are not a constituent, you will not receive a message back from the Senator, out of respect in prioritizing the residents of the State of Texas and their concerns first and foremost.
